Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market

In the 1800s, Hans Christian Andersen was the definitive author of Children’s literature with some of the most famous fairy tales under his belt. It is no wonder then that the Danish love for Christmas is merged with their reverence for this Golden Age folks hero each year.

For a unique encounter with Denmark’s holiday heritage, visit the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market. Situated in the oldest part of Odense near the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, the area is beautifully transformed with an authentic old fashioned market atmosphere. Situated just under two hours from Odense, this massive annual celebration is a sure bet to warm your heart in time for the season of spirit and giving. With 18,000 glowing lights, Santa’s sleigh, and even the added excitement of live reindeer, Hojbro Plads is transformed each year into a festive and interactive market-place festival throughout the months of November and December.

Visit a number of different local vendors to get your hands on hand-knitted garments, unique glassware, and more. Log-cabins lining the street provide the perfect relief from the cold and a host of Danish delights, including German-style barbecue and glögg (mulled wine). Tivoli Christmas Market in Copenhagen

For the 26th year, Tivoli Gardens amusement park in central Copenhagen will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Visit Santa and his reindeer as you explore the famous garden, decorated with more than 70,000 beautiful lights and more than 1000 Christmas trees.

This year, the market boasts a special, brand new projection show outside the concert hall that promises to be a spectacular display of imagination. 60 different stalls will be filled to the brim with Christmas decorations, sweets and delights, and hot drinks included mulled glögg.
